The Firefighters on the Roof

The firefighters climb the ladders and up onto the roof. Not all of them come back. The radiation level is now so high that being in the wrong spot means receiving a lethal dose within minutes. Death from acute radiation sickness is often not immediate. Instead, you become a "walking ghost" and can continue to work and live, perhaps for a few days, perhaps up to a month.
