    Acute Radiation Sickness

The human body is made up of cells that are renewed through division. An existing cell is fairly resistant to radiation, but the division process is sensitive. Acute radiation sickness is mainly caused by damage to the digestive system and the bone marrow that produces blood cells. In the intestinal walls, cells are "born" deeper inside and migrate toward the inner surface where they eventually die and leave the body. Radiation means no functioning division, missing functional cells, and voids that slowly migrate toward the surface. A ticking time bomb.
