    The Steam Explosion

What happens first is a steam explosion, not a nuclear bomb! The built-up steam pressure blows the reactor apart, lifts off the 2,000-ton reactor lid, and damages the roof. Shortly after, an even larger explosion demolishes the reactor building and spreads more reactor contents into the surroundings. This time it is hydrogen formed in the core that causes the devastation. Still not a nuclear bomb. Two people die immediately from the explosions.
